David Hockney, A Bigger Splash (1967)
This is quite possibly my favorite painting ever. The bizarre part is that I read the title somewhere before I’d even seen the canvas but knew from that italicized sentence fragment that it was going to mean something to me.
Probably because if I had to summarize my wants and dreams and goals for the next decade, I’d use those three words.
That, and getting Alan Rickman’s phone number.
I love the idea of one’s wants and dreams and goals being summarized in the phrase/title “A Bigger Splash.” She’s some thought-provoking stuff, that J-Money.
BUT I’m reblogging this for the actual purpose* of bragging that I SAW THIS IN PERSON IN LONDON AT THE TATE GALLERY WHEN IT WAS JUST THE TATE, NOT THE TATE BRITAIN.
That felt good.
*And to see just HOW HIGH I can git my Tumblarity today. I drove my 2 up to an 11 by merely reblogging three items that made me laugh, so now my mood is all sparkles and sunbursts. Come on, Tumblarity! Come on, girl! I know you can do it! Just a little farther! …!
